The Northern Territory Police Association (NTPA) acknowledges the Northern Territory Government's decision to terminate the contract of Commissioner Michael Murphy APM.

NTPA President, Nathan Finn understands this was a decision that could not be entered into lightly and required serious consideration, consultation, and advice before that decision was made.

We acknowledge that Mr. Murphy has chosen not to resign. Therefore, the Chief Minister had no choice but to stand him down until the termination process concludes.

Mr Murphy’s decision not to resign will be a distraction for some. However, our members, the dedicated and hard-working men, and women of the Northern Territory Police Force, will continue their commitment to serving and protecting the community.

NTPA President, Nathan Finn also extends his thanks to all Northern Territory Police officers for their ongoing commitment and professionalism.

The NTPA will continue to focus on its role of protecting and supporting our members.

“To our members, we are the best police force in the country, and we will come together, move forward, and continue to uphold the values we stand for,” said President, Nathan Finn.

“Look out for one another and continue to serve the community with the dedication and passion that define us—because they need us.”
