The Northern Territory Police Association (NTPA) welcomes the latest Federal funding commitment under the Northern Territory Remote Aboriginal Investment (NTRAI), which will provide critical support for policing and essential services across the Territory.
Of the total $842.6 million commitment, $205.9 million has been allocated to remote policing efforts, with NTPA President Nathan Finn saying he looks forward to seeing that funding breakdown in more detail.
“Our members serve in some of the most geographically isolated communities in the country, and they must have the resources, infrastructure, and support necessary to do their jobs effectively and safely.
“Results from our latest 2025 Consent Agreement Survey showed there is little interest amongst the members of our force to take up remote positions, with only 11% of respondents saying they were considering applying for a remote posting.
“The main factor driving police officers away from these positions is the poor and inadequate housing conditions they are subjected to. If allocated correctly, this latest funding announcement could go a long way in improving some of these conditions.
“The NTPA looks forward to working with the Northern Territory Government and relevant stakeholders to ensure the funding is directed where it is most needed, delivering tangible outcomes for officers and the communities they serve.”
